LA Hump Day Links: April 18, 2012

Happy hump day, all! (And happy 10 months of marriage, PH.)

  • Bad Education by Malcolm Harris at n+1. This article came out almost a year ago to the day (an oldie but goodie), and it’s a riveting and accurate account of how for-profit (and even non-profit) higher education has increasingly become a scam — let alone letting the liberal arts down. Fun fact? Since 1978, the price of tuition at US colleges has increased over 900 percent. Yikes.
  • Higher Education’s Role In Occupy And Related Social Justice Movements, by Maura Stephens at Truthout. A manifesto on how higher education and the Occupy movement are fused, and gives specific tips on what the college community can do to help promote the Occupy movement.
  • A Poem Store Open For Business, In The Open Air, by Cindy Carpien at NPR. On, a lighter note — would you like a poem? Now for sale at your local farmers market.
